CAROLIN HUME

Upper School Vice Principal

Mrs. Carolin Hume has been an English teacher since September 2000. She is currently the Upper School Vice Principal with responsibility for Grades 10 to 13, but served in the past as Grade 11 Coordinator, Grade 7 Coordinator and Special Events Coordinator. The profession of education came naturally to Mrs. Hume.  Growing up, she would spend parts of her holiday “teaching” her younger cousins.  Her goal in educating is to see students realizing, then surpassing, what is believed to be their potential. She strongly believes that true education effectively prepares students for all aspects of life.

Mrs. Hume has organized events including but not limited to Grades 7 and 10 Summer School, Graduation and Open Campus. During her tenure, Mrs. Hume has worked with an excellent school board, principal, team of teachers, administrative and ancillary staff, parents, students and stakeholders in the Montego Bay community to create the premier school in Western Jamaica.

Mrs. Hume is also a proud past alumna of Mount Alvernia High School and firmly believes in the school’s motto “To the Stars Through Difficulty”. She was trained at Mico College and received a Bsc (Honours) in Management Studies from the University of the West Indies.

Her mantra is that she has succeeded as an educator when her students become independent of her. Her hobbies include reading and going to the beach, and her charity work has included tutoring inner-city youth in English.

She foresees Mount Alvernia High School remaining the school of choice for young ladies in Western Jamaica, a school that effectively prepares its charges to walk in excellence in all they do.
